****THIS PAGE IS OUTDATED****

If your building has free Internet service via hotspots, that service is not offered by or maintained by Downtownian.com.  If you are having an issue with the service, you'll need to contact the provider for support.

The Provider

Datastain.com is a local internet provider in downtown Baltimore City.  They offer high-speed internet subscriptions via wireless hotspots throughout the city.  Through a deal with Downtownian.com, Datastain.com is able to offer all of the residents of select Downtownian.com buildings access to their hotspot network at no charge!

If you require service at any time, please do not contact Downtownian.com.  They can't help you!  Instead, you should visit the provder's website at http://www.datastain.com or send an email to support@datastain.com

Using the Service

In order to receive the Datastain.com signal, you’ll need a wireless card or router attached to your computer. Often, but not always, computers come with this technology built in. Your wireless card or router must be able to accept an 802.11-b or –g signal. Unfortunately, Datastain.com will be unable to assist you in setting up your wireless card or router, however most computer service centers will be able to assist you.

In order to obtain internet service, you must find and connect to the Datastain.com wireless signal. The wireless ID, or SSID, of that signal is “Public_Hotspot--Datastain.com”. Follow the instructions of your wireless card or router in order to connect to the SSID. Once you connect, open a browser window. You should see a login screen.  From that screen, you can establish a new account, log into an existing account, and manage your account information.

If you wish to use an Internet appliance that needs direct access to the Internet, such as a gaming console, a Blu-Ray player, or a VoIP phone, you can enter the appliance's MAC address on your account page, and the hotspot will automatically log that appliance in when it attempts to connect.

Obtaining an Account

When you sign your Apartment Lease, Downtownian.com will provide you with a voucher number which entitles you to one year of free Internet from Datastain.com.  You can redeem this voucher by conencting to the SSID and entering the voucher number in the field provided.  You will then be able to establish an account with a username and password of your choosing.  If you did not receive a voucher from Downtownian.com at lease signing, or if you require additional assistance connecting, don't contact us.  Instead, contact Datastain.com directly by visit their website at http://www.datastain.com or sending an email to support@datastain.com.
